Papua New Guinea Single Origin Chocolate

Papua New Guinea chocolate is made with cocoa from the country's islands and highlands, with East New Britain among the main growing provinces. The crop is built on heirloom Trinitario, introduced from Samoa in 1889. We stock Cacao Barry's Papouasie, a creamy milk couverture made from single origin Papua New Guinean beans.

Who Grows Papua New Guinea's Cocoa?

Almost all of it comes from smallholders. Small farms produce around ninety eight per cent of the country's cocoa and support more than 151,000 households, so this couverture traces back to many individual growers.

What Does Papouasie Taste Like?

It has a distinctive caramel and hazelnut profile, which is unusual in a milk chocolate at this cocoa percentage. You get something more characterful than a standard milk couverture without losing the sweetness customers expect.
